Our Rocket Challenge still has time to go but Wednesday the 26th is the day we achieved one of our Goals.  We Blasted a rocket across the school grounds and out of the School Property.  Belinda was the successful engineer who achieved our biggest goal yet.  We had managed to cross the netball court,   cross our classroom,  cross the school field and finally cross into a neighbouring property.  Check out our video.

Because we still have time to go, we will get a group of our best engineers together to spend a bit of time looking at our designs and talking with some experts. We know that we had to add weight to our rockets nose and that we have to consider how much water to add. Our water to weight ratio seems to have an affect on how far our rockets travel. The more water we add the heavier our rockets are. We are also considering takeoff angle and pressure as well. It seems our Laucher has a pressure release valve on it that lets pressure out at 120psi.

  Next Steps.
Safety - Have our safety officer make sure that our area is safe and that all observers are back at a safe distance.
Launch Control - We want to make maximum use of the pressure we have. We want to launch just before reaching 120psi.
Payload Specialist - We want to do further testing on how much water is the perfect amount.
Communications Specialist - We have located a very very small camera that we will fit to our rocket to video it's path. Fitting this so it safely makes the complete flight without being damaged will be important.

What an awesome project! Have you thought about contacting Elon Musk and offering your design services for intergalactic flight? Who amongst you wishes to have a career in the aerospace industry?

  5. Kia Ora Ruma Kereru,Indi here from Karoro School. Great job! I really enjoyed watching the video! I have never seen anything like it. How did you guys get a set of rocket launchers? How do they work? Maybe next time you could explain how they work and what you have to do to set them off. Awesome job! I hope I get to use one of those someday!

  7. Kia Ora Ruma Kereru,
it is Phoebe from Karoro School.
I enjoyed watching your video and reading the information about your Rocket Challenge.
I have done this challenge before at technology and my favourite part about it was designing and launching them. What is your favourite part?
Something that helped them go higher and further was how much water we put in the rockets and making sure the decoration on it wasn't too heavy.
    Ka kite. Bye

  8. Kia Ora Ruma kereru, you have done an amazing job with these rockets and I like how it would go further everyday. I found it it cool that you videoed it each time to see how far it went each day. I also found it cool that it sprayed when it went. How long is the furthest it has gone? From Billie.

  9. Hi room Kereru, I liked watching and reading about your rockets. They look really exciting!I did that challenge at technology at Greymouth High school once. With the music yours sounds so much more fun. My favourite bit while I was watching your rocket challenge was when someone's rocket sprayed everyone. It made me laugh! Wow 78 metres is a long way for a rocket to fly. I think my rocket only flew probably 50-60 metres! Well done I found your post very exciting and enjoyable to read.

  10. Hi Ruma Kereru, great work on the rockets. I really enjoyed watching that video. They looked pretty cool in the air. I think it's a good idea to attach a tiny camera so we can see them in flight. We did this task last year. My rocket flew about 80 metres. Maybe next time you could get some more videos in slo mo. Keep up the great work.

  15. Kia ora ruma Kereru, I'm Breanna from Karoro School. This looks like a lot of fun and your rockets look really good! I was surprised how far some of them went. I think that if you could figure out the right amount of water it would help heaps. They look really cool when they fly through the air good job!

  17. Kia Ora Ruma Kereru Ethan here from Karoro School. You have done amazing work on your rocket challenge. Last year at Tech Karoro School had done the same thing, but there's didn't go as far as your guys ones. I like how you have added the steps you guys were working on. Keep up the great work.

  18. Hello Ruma Kereru, it's Emma at Karoro School. Wow making rockets sounds like a lot of fun and hard work at the same time. What was hard about making the rockets and what made it worthwhile?? They sound pretty similar to the balloon bottle cars my classroom made. Keep up the great work.

  19. Kia Ora Ruma Kereru your rocket challenge looks fun and cool and its amazing how far the rockets can go. Last year I did somthing simler we built our own rocket and spray panted it at technology. What we didi for our rockets we filled them just under half way and filled it with air. What was your best water to weight ratio?

    Great work

  20. Wow that was very impressive how far that last one went but one thing that could be improved is the design because some of the rockets didn't move in a straight line I think a way you can fix this is by making the wings even .

  21. Kia ora Ruma Kereru your Rocket Challenge looks like a really fun and cool project and is amazing how one of them went 78.17 m. Last year I did something similar at technology which was at grey high school. My class created bottle rocket's using air pressure to lift them off. have you launched any further yet?

  22. That is cool that you made rockets. That would be cool if our school did that however we are right by the road and launching a rocket might cause a car accident. Next time you could explain more about how you made them.

  23. Hi I am Flynn. I go to Karoro school in Greymouth. I think that you guys put a lot of effort into this. I love the rockets by the way and I laughed how they got stuck in trees though. I think you guys could make some imporvments to your rockets the next time you do something that invovles things simmilar to this.

  24. Hi, I like how you are making rockets at your school. And it is amazing how far they are going. How small is the camera? Wouldn't it make the rocket unbalanced? It sounds really fun.

  25. That looked very good. The last one went very far. I am excited to see some of the footage for the camera on the rocket. How high up do you think It can go? Continue with the great work.

  26. Kia Ora my name is Rhys i go to karoro school i am here to comment on this really cool project i did the exact same thing i like how the designs looked but do you think the rockets can go any higher maybe you will get to do it again keep up the great work

  27. Hi its Nathan from Karoro School. I once did something like this but my rocket didn't turn out as good as these ones. I like your rocket launch video because its cool seeing all launch into the air. I found it interesting how some rockets went backwards when they were aiming forwards. Next time you make a video like this I think that when someone is launching the rocket you should put their names on the screen at the same time so we know who's rocket is being launched. Keep up the good work👍.
